MANALI: Himachal Pradesh reported the first case of Omicron from Mandi district on Sunday.
A 45-year-old Canada returnee woman was tested negative for Covid-19 on Friday but has been tested positive for new Omicron variant on Sunday.

The woman had returned from Canada at Mundra Sea Port on December 3. She was tested positive for Covid-19 after her RT-PCR sample was examined at IGMC Shimla on December 12. Later her sample was sent to National Centre for Disease Control, Delhi for whole-genome sequencing (WGS) on December 18. While the woman was tested negative for Covid-19 after her RT-PCR test on Friday, the genome sequencing report for Omicron has come positive on Sunday.
The officials said the woman is fully vaccinated with Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccine and she had taken her second dose on April 25. The patient was in home isolation and her contacts were also tested negative for the disease.
